Holroyd City Council

The Flyball Ring is the place to be at Holroyd PetFest!

Pet owners have an opportunity to watch dogs compete in flyball Sunday, 20 September 2009 from 10am – 3pm at Holroyd Gardens (coner Pitt & Walpole Sts, Merrylands).

Flyball is a relay race between two teams of four dogs. Racing side by side, one dog from each team must go over four hurdles, trigger a flyball box pedal, catch (retrieve) a ball and then return over all four hurdles to the start/finish line where the next dog anticipates his turn.

As a team sport, Flyball encompasses all things that dogs love to do including jumping, catching, retrieving, competing and striving to please their owners all the while learning discipline and obedience. Flyball is a sport in which any dog can participate, regardless of breed, shape or size.

Flyball is also great fun for dogs owners as well! It’s an excellent way to meet people, brings people together thorough teamwork and is competitive and fun. The best part of flyball is the dog’s anticipation, excitement and contentment.

Why not also check out what else is on at PetFest*? Come along and meet Dora and her pet monkey Boots at the PetFest stage at 11.00am, 12noon and 1.30pm. Dora’s friends Jack and Jess from Stockland will also be at PetFest teaching children how to become even better pet owners.

In the MemberFirst Credit Union Arena, kids can have even more fun watching the dancing and performing dogs, getting up close to scaly and slimy critters from the Australian Wildlife Display plus get a bit country at the sheep shearing and sheep dog herding.

Along with the excellent entertainment, there will be competitions, prizes and giveaways galore. Competitions include the Network Nine Pet Passion for Fashion Parade with the following categories: Best Dressed Pet; Most Unique Pet; Best Pet Strut; and Pet Owner Look Alike.

There will be free pony rides and animal farm, face painting as well as fun activities at the Bunnings Villawood Craft Corner, so come and get your face painted and be sure not to miss the Australian Flyball Association, back again this year, with teams competing for the prestigious Holroyd City Flyball Cup.
