Holroyd Council can do!

Local Children making a difference in our Community

On 17 August 2009 children attending Holroyd Children’s Centre - Gumnut Grove children’s centre will help make practical environmental changes within the local community by participating in The Green Up Clean Up fundraiser. The children’s first project will be to establish a vegetable garden within the centre grounds which will teach children about gardening, water saving techniques, fresh food and produce.

This is an initiative developed by The Fundraising Group, a national program to raise extra funding through activities, donations and sponsorship while providing healthy positive messages through local and school communities.

Mayor Councillor Greg Cummings encourages all local schools and childcare centres to get involved in ‘The Green Up Clean Up Program’ which lets young people do their bit for the environment and raises those extra funds for services to put back into their surrounding environment or to spend on educational projects such as water tanks, vegetable gardens or native tree planting.

Sarah Morgan from the Green Up Clean Up office said “We are seeing more and more schools and child care centres looking for innovative ways to raise extra funding and also promote healthy educational messages to the local community, Holroyd Children's Centre - Gumnut Grove should be proud they are one of them.”

Clr Cummings said, ‘Our community wishes Holroyd Children's Centre - Gumnut Grove the best of luck in their fundraising efforts’.

If you would like to help donate money or sponsor the centre, contact the organiser - Jody Brasier, at Holroyd Children's Centre - Gumnut Grove during business hours on 9637 9716.
