Holroyd City Council

Free community history event – What’s Your Story? Celebrating Local History

In a special Culture in the Chambers event where history will come alive, Holroyd City Council is again promoting local history alongside well loved Australian entertainment. Bring along your swag and best bush poem for an historic Holroyd experience in Council’s foyer & Piazza area.

Local musicians from the Toongabbie Music Club, will captivate and entertain audiences with traditional and contemporary Australian folk songs, full of heartfelt tradition and historic appeal.

But don’t put your damper down yet! As well as this feature performance, Council is proud to be partnering with Holroyd Local History Research to present a selection of remarkable photographs, poetry and stories of a past Holroyd. See what the neighbourhood used to look like and find out some interesting facts that put Holroyd on the map. Winners of the on line poetry competition will also be announced and wordsmiths will marvel audiences for the opportunity to win the Holroyd Poetry Page Award.

Don’t miss out on this free community event: Sunday 16 August 2009 from 2:00pm – 5:00 pm, Council Chambers 16 Memorial Avenue, Merrylands. Enjoy entertainment and a sausage sizzle, hot drinks from the billy and some tales about the area you call home.
