The community cookbook ‘Love Your Leftovers’ has been developed as part of
Council’s commitment to the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage’s ‘Love Food
Hate Waste’ program, designed to minimise food waste in NSW households.
‘The majority of recipes in the book have been sourced from senior members of the
Holroyd community,’ said Holroyd City Mayor, Clr Yvette Whitfield. ‘ This cookbook is
being promoted as a scrapbook of their tips, recipes and memories which will hopefully
encourage the younger generations to respect food, and minimise food waste in their
own homes. ‘
The book will be launched on 8 and 9 December 2011 at Stockland Mall Merrylands
(outside the new Coles store). Both launch days will involve a three hour cooking
demonstration by Jay Huxley, a 2011 Masterchef contestant.
‘The Love Your Leftovers cookbook will make a great Christmas gift so come along and
get your copy,’ said Mayor Clr Whitfield.
Books will be available for sale at the launch with a portion of proceeds being donated
to the Parramatta Missions Food Recovery Program; a local program which also does a
great deal to minimise food waste in our community by diverting it to those in need.
