The 40km/hr school zone speed limits apply between 8am - 9.30am and 2.30pm - 4pm on school days.
Holroyd Council has pioneered an award-winning program that places flashing lights around all schools. This is a unique agreement with private industry that saves Council more than $3 million in installation costs.
If the school lights are not working contact the Road Safety Officer on 9840 9864.
Public holidays are not considered school days.
Due to their nature, children are impulsive, less predicable and harder to see than adults. Extra care should be taken when driving in school zones.
Council regularly monitors school zones and issues penalties to drivers who behave dangerously around school zones.
Drivers should never endanger or put a child at risk by parking illegally in a school zone.
Double parking at any time is illegal and is particularly dangerous around schools. It reduces visibility and blocks the road for other motorists. Children stepping on to the road to get into a car which is double parked are not visible to other motorists.
Encourage your children to always use pedestrian or children crossings. Children should always use the ‘safety door’ which is the door on the passenger side on the back seat. It opens towards the kerb rather than into traffic.
