Holroyd Council provides a road safety training track at the Holroyd Gardens, on the corner of Pitt and Walpole Streets, Merrylands.
There is a free bicycle safety computer game for children called Head Over Wheels.
Bicycles are vehicles by law under the Australian Road Rules, with equal rights to share the road, and an equal responsibility to obey traffic laws.
All cyclists must wear a helmet in a public place, including roads, pathways and parks.
Young cyclists under the age of 12 years may ride on the footpath as well as the adult accompanying them. Children between 12 and 18 can ride on the footpath if with an adult over 18 and a child under 12. All cyclists riding on the footpath must give way to pedestrians. Council does have the right to prohibit all cyclists from certain areas, including those cyclists under 12 years of age.
A bicycle training program for children and their parents/carers is available free of charge from the Road Safety Officer by emailing web2@holroyd.nsw.gov.au.
