Requests for New Footpaths
Requests for new footpaths must be in writing and provide the following information:
- Location of required footpath
- Reason for request
Council's officers will investigate and ascertain whether the site is included in the priority lists (which are based on use and pedestrian safety).
Priority 1
- Access for disabled people as nominated by the Access Committee
- Shopping centre footpath upgrades. Due to the high cost large shopping centres are usually upgraded under a special program.
- Where there is a footpath safety problem that cannot be solved by maintenance
- Both sides of arterial, sub-arterial and collector roads, where developed residential/commercial properties front them or they are an important link to a pedestrian generator
Priority 2
One side of all local roads within 400m of major pedestrian generators, but generally excluding the following:
- Roads in 2(c) areas as the developers are conditioned to construct the pathpaving. From time to time, an odd section may be outstanding due to redevelopment not occurring; this becomes a priority 2.
- Cul de sac/crescents which service less than 30 dwellings unless the cul de sac/crescent has a pathway/laneway between properties linking to another road or there is a pedestrian generator on that street.
Major pedestrian generators are defined as:
- Major shopping centres
- Schools
- Clubs
- Council Pools
- Railway stations
- Retirement villages
- On the side where a church exists, over the full road block.
