Only a small part of Parramatta is in the Holroyd Local Government area.
The Parramatta area was first seen by Europeans on 23 April 1788 when Governor Phillip's party reached the land at the head of the Parramatta River.
They were impressed by the good soil and the following spring Phillip established a government farm there on 2 November 1788.
