Pool Party

Party at the Australia Day Pool Party at Merrylands Swim Centre with free children's activities, entertainment and loads of prizes!

It's on 10am - 3pm with free entry from 8.30am - 12 noon on 26 January 2010.

Please only bring soft pool floaties. Please note that children 10 years of age and under will not be permitted entry into the Swim Centre unless accompanied by a guardian 16 years or older to supervise them.

Concert

Stay local this Australia Day and celebrate our history and the old surf rock classics at the Australia Day Concert from 3pm on Merrylands Oval (corner Burnett St and Merrylands Rd) with The Delltones and The Atlantics. Get 'all shook up' with our very own local Elvis impersonator David Cazalet, while The Holroyd Musical and Dramatic Society will get retro with classic 80s hits!

We also have performances by Daniel Isaac Jones, Sabrina Matwali, Sarah Cocco and the Holroyd City Brass Band. Bring your family and friends and enjoy the entertainment for young and old!

Join us on the top oval at Merrylands Park to see performances by young local artists merging hip-hop, tap, jazz, break dancing with rap and beat-boxing. Hear some quality local bands and be sure not to miss DJ Nino Brown throughout the afternoon.

Finish your evening off with a Fantastic Fireworks Finale at 9pm (subject to change).

Keep an eye out for the full program which will become available very soon!

Citizen of the Year and Young Ambassador Nominations

Nominations are now closed for Citizen of the Year and Young Ambassadors 2009.

The Citizen of the Year Award is presented to a deserving individual whose work has bettered the lives of others in Holroyd. Young Ambassadors/Faces of Holroyd recognises the excellence of Holroyd's young people in their area of work. There are eight categories with a winner chosen in each.

Annual Celebrations

Each year Council hosts a community celebration to acknowledge Australia Day. The event features a pool party, a day-time festival with rides and entertainment by local performers and an evening concert which concludes with a fireworks display. The Pool Party is held every year at Merrylands Swim Centre on Australia Day before the Concert at Merrylands Park.

The Pool Party is unique to Holroyd and celebrates our national day in a distinctively Australian style. The Australia Day Concert provides entertainment and activities for all members of the family and features entertainment by well-known Australian artists, indigenous performers and talented groups and individuals living in our community.
