Warali Wali

Warali Wali is an exciting cultural initiative of interpretive Aboriginal artworks on Prospect Creek cycleway in Western Sydney.

It is a series of four artworks and path markers telling stories of the local Aboriginal people, the Darug. The stories tell of the native flora and fauna of the local waterway, Prospect Creek.

The artworks and markers were developed by Aboriginal artists with the support of the Darug Elders, the traditional Custodians of these lands, and the wider Aboriginal community.

The artworks are sited along an 8 kilometre stretch of the cycleway between Gipps Road, Smithfield and Fairfield Road, Fairfield. You can download a cycleway brochure or pick one up from Council's Customer Service Centre.

This project won the Local Government Cultural Award in 2005. Auntie Mavis Halvorson, Darug Elder, accepted the award on behalf of Council. The project also won the Parks and Leisure National Award for Open Space Management in 2006. Mr David Williams, Chairperson of Council's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Consultative Committee accepted the Award on behalf of Council.

A booklet named ‘Dreaming Stories of Prospect Creek’ accompanies the Warali Wali initiative and can be purchased from Council.
