National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee (NAIDOC)

Council provides funds for the celebration of NAIDOC Week each year. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Consultative Committee is responsible for the planning, implementation and evaluation of the day.

The Committee runs a number of activities over the week with an aim to:

  • raise community awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history and culture
  • promote positive images of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • create opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists.

Council also hosts an annual Art Exhibition in the foyer to showcase local Aboriginal art and craft products where works exhibited are for sale. Council provides this service free to local artists. For further information on this exhibition, please contact Council’s Cultural Officer on 9840 9997.
