Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Consultative Committee

Council established an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Consultative Committee (ATSICC) in 1997. This Committee meets quarterly and makes recommendations to council on issues affecting the local Aboriginal community. You can read the committee's terms of reference and guidelines.

If you are from Aboriginal or Torres Straight Islander background and interested in nominating for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Consultative Committee, please complete the Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander Consultative Committee Nomination Form 2012-2013.

Council is committed to promoting positive images of Aboriginal people and considers the Committee's recommendations with great respect.

  • the hanging of Aboriginal paintings in Council's foyer
  • the adoption and display of the Australian Local Government Association Statement of Agreement in the Council foyer.

Other initiatives include:

  • An Aboriginal Collection at the Merrylands Library
  • An Aboriginal Employment Strategy in Council
  • The funding of a Committee member to attend the NSW Local Government Aboriginal Network Conference annually.
