Storms and Floods
Minimising Damage
Unfortunately, storms and floods are not preventable. They can cause damage to roofs and powerlines and cut off telephone and road access. The damage to yourself, homes, business and property can be reduced if you are prepared.
Some tips to minimise damage before a storm are:
- Check that your roof is secure and in good condition.
- Clean out your gutters and drains regularly to prevent water damage to ceilings.
- Trim any dangerous or overhanging branches. Check with Council on 9840 9840 for permission first.
- Secure or lock away anything outside that can be blown away.
What to do in an Emergency
During a storm, it is best to stay inside, away from windows. If you are outside, find cover away from any trees.
The State Emergency Service (SES) responds to storms and floods in NSW. They can help with temporary repairs and clear any debris. The Holroyd SES unit work closely with Holroyd City Council to respond to any emergencies and educate the Holroyd community. In an emergency, the SES can be contacted on 132 500. Visit their website for more information at NSW State Emergency Service.
In a life threatening emergency, call 000.
