About the Holroyd Web Watch Project

Welcome to the Safety Street Website. This website is a part of the Holroyd Web Watch Project. The Holroyd Web Watch Project consists of a community safety website and printed pamphlets on community safety and community capacity building information in selected languages. This project was made possible from funding under the National Community Crime Prevention Programme and aims to get people to work together for the common goal of promoting community safety. On this website you will find information about keeping safe, preventing crime and building our communities.

Crime affects our community as a whole and can impact on our daily activities such as going out at night, going away on holidays, using an ATM machine and even using the internet. This can lead to social isolation and can have a negative effect on how we live our lives. The fear of crime can also have a negative effect on what we do and how we do it. Research shows that often it is this fear of a crime occurring which also affects our community and daily activities.

It is important to remember that whilst certain crimes are highlighted on this website, they are not an indication of an increased occurrence in Holroyd.

Crime Prevention

Community safety and crime prevention go hand in hand. By being aware of issues that affect our community and by taking small measures to protect our property, we can make a difference. It can be as simple as locking up our homes properly or trimming overgrown bushes. It also means reducing our fear of crime by taking some simple precautions, being involved in our community, getting to know our neighbours and looking out for each other.

Reducing crime and our fear of crime increases our enjoyment of our community and improves our quality of life.

A neighbourhood which has strong social bonds, where people take pride in their street and own their public places, where the needs of all groups in the community are met and where people regard the area as an attractive and safe place to live and work, is likely to have a low crime rate (Crime Prevention Resource Manual, Crime Prevention Division, NSW Attorney General’s Department).
