Living Library

Heard of a Living Library?  Basically, it is where a person comes into a library and instead of borrowing a book on a topic of their choice, they ‘borrow’ a person who has experienced the topic and can explain and discuss their experiences first hand.

It is an interactive discussion that allows the ‘reader’ to find out more about a topic from a real life ‘book’.

Holroyd City Library is interested in providing a setting for real life ‘books’, to discuss their life experiences with interested readers.

Real life ‘books’ can be about any topic, for example:

  • Living with cancer
  • Local history
  • Doing a family tree
  • Being a Muslim
  • War veteran
  • Dealing with depression
  • Gay or lesbian
  • Living with a disability
  • Caring for an elderly, frail or disabled relative
  • Being a refugee
  • Vegetarian
  • Single parent
  • Adoptee
  • Writer
  • New parent
  • Homelessness
