Early Integration Program
Holroyd City Council actively supports the Early Integration Program operating from The Sometime Centre, Merrylands.

Transition to School
Each year our Long Day Care/Preschools and Occasional Care services operate a transition to school program which assists in preparing children for the new environments and new routines which they will be encountering when starting school.
The programs supplement the preparation for school skills that each service offers based on individual children’s developmental readiness.
Each year Holroyd City Council’s Children’s Services develops a Transition to School Book to assist families with information on school readiness and preparing their child for school.
Paint Holroyd REaD
Paint Holroyd REaD is a community literacy capacity building program rolling out across the Holroyd LGA. It is based on a very successful model developed in Parkes over 10 years ago.
The program’s aim is to encourage all levels of the community to support the development of children’s early literacy skills from birth, so that they will be ready for reading and writing at school.
Literacy is a key to life’s success. Research shows that foundational skills learn’t between the ages of 0 and 5 years are critical for developing literacy skills at school.
‘Poppy the Possum’ is Holroyd’s Paint Holroyd REaD mascot who can be booked to visit childcare centres, public places and local events to read children stories and further promote literacy. If you would like to host a Paint Holroyd REaD Event, Poppy can make a guest appearance. This is a great way to not only promote literacy but to also market your service or business.
Use the online form or the Paint Holroyd READ Event Request Form to book Poppy for your event.
For more information, or if you are interested in becoming a sponsor of Paint Holroyd REaD, please contact Brooke Capovilla on 02 9840 9904 or Jane Hayden on 02 9840 9996.
