Central GardensCentral Gardens is a natural oasis of calm in the middle of busy Merrylands. It is bordered by the Cumberland Highway, Paton Street and Merrylands Road.
The 12 hectares of natural bushland with an ornamental lake, beautiful trees and plenty of space to stroll, play games, watch the birds and enjoy the fresh air.
There are also native animals and birds including kangaroos and cockatoos.
On weekdays the gardens are open from 7.30am til 5pm, or until 7pm during daylight savings. On weekends the hours are 9am to 5pm or 8am to 7pm daylight savings. The park is closed on Good Friday and Christmas Day.
One of the major features of the reserve is the ornamental lakes system that flows from the north-western quarter and incorporates the waterlake, the boardwalk bridges and rapids. The tiny islands are the resting area for a collection of water fowls and their young.
People come to feed the ducks, barbeque, get married, and hold family reunions, group Christmas parties and school outings.
Bookings for weddings and large groups are essential.
Large groups can reserve either the Pinaroo (corner of Paton Street and Cumberland Highway) or Yarrabee (corner of Merrylands Road and Cumberland Highway) picnic areas. Both have electric barbeques and facilities and are close to amenities and play equipment. Pinaroo accomodates 100 people and Yarrabee up to 200 people.
Both Merrylands Road and Paton Street entrance have car parking facilities. Numerous drinking fountains and well maintained toilet facilities will ensure your visit will be trouble free. The Merrylands Road amenities have a seperate boiling water tank and a washing up sink.
The children's play equipment is attractive and high quality. The Central Gardens play areas incorporate shade awnings and this, together with the softfall floor, makes the facilities ideal for tiny tots to safely enjoy.
