The Greystanes Woodland (also known as Alpha Park Bushland Corridor) is a remnant example of vegetation that was once widespread in Western Sydney.
A group of dedicated people which includes residents who live near the bushland and volunteers from other suburbs have banded together to form a Bushcare group to save this natural treasure. The Bushcare group meet once a month to carry out bush regeneration works.
The group welcomes anybody interested in learning about their native flora and fauna and helping them save your natural areas. If you would like to join the group contact Council's Bushland Management Officer on 8724 8654.
Clearing for farming and development has resulted in a widespread decline of Cumberland Plain vegetation and the animals it supported. Fortunately, natural areas such as Greystanes Woodland do remain. It supports many native birds, small reptiles and mammals.
Unfortunately, pressure from adjoining development, disturbance from people through rubbish dumping, backyard encroachment and weedy garden escapes constantly threaten it's existence and future.
The Greystanes Woodland includes Eucalyptus moluccana (Grey Box), Eucalyptus tereticornis, (Forest Red Gum) and Eucalyptus fibrosa (Broad-leaved Ironbark). There are many understorey plant species which include shrubs, grasses and herbs.
With support from the Bushcare group, Holroyd City Council and Natural Heritage funding from the Southern Sydney Catchment Management Board, the Greystanes Woodland's chances of survival are greatly increased.
