In early 2004 after an extended period of consultation with relevant stakeholders, an Australian Standard was introduced which replaces Council’s Food Premises Code. The Australian Standard which is referred to as AS4674-2004 Design, Construction and Fit-out of Food Premises should be read in conjunction with Food Safety Standard 3.2.3.
An application for approval to construct a new food business (or a proposal to carry out significant alterations to an existing business) will need to obtain a copy of the Australian Standard in order to incorporate the requirements into the detailed plans to be submitted to Council.
Copies of the Standard can be obtained from Standards Australia on 1300 654 646. For copyright reasons Council is unable to provide copies of the document. The assessment of plans by Council will utilize the requirements of AS4674-2004.
