Holroyd City Council

Holroyd Council can do!

Holroyd Children's Centre

Holroyd Children's Centre is split into two buildings to cater for separate age groups; Banksia Babes for children aged between 6 weeks and 3 years, and Gumnut Grove for children aged 2 to 6. Please see our waiting list information and online application form for enrolments.

The programs at both centres are based on the Emergent Curriculum which provides experiences that will cater for your child's interest as well as age appropriate developmental stages. It also provides experiences for the individual learning needs of the children.

Our program aims to encourage children to develop their own independence and confidence as well as the enjoyment of learning through play.

At both of our centres we have qualified home economists that provide nutritional meals daily from menus which are prepared in accordance with the NSW Department of Health.

We also have a wonderful team of qualified and experienced carers who believe in providing high quality care for the children and families who use the service.

Both centres care for children using the primary care giving approach. This involves specific carers catering to a small focus group of children and their needs. Carers document children's general achievements and developmental milestones in each child's developmental journals.

We encourage parents to be actively involved in all aspects of the daily program and any comments or suggestions you may have are always more than welcome.

"My daughter was first going to Banksia Babes (which I was very happy with as well). When she was new at the centre, like every child, she was very upset when she was going to separate from me in the mornings. If the staff weren’t so supportive and so helpful I wouldn’t have known how to be patient for my daughter to settle in. This year my daughter us going to Gumnut Grove and yet again with the support of the staff my daughter loves the centre which makes me feel comfortable to leave her there. The staff at both centres are very friendly, kind caring people with their beautiful smiles making the atmosphere glow with happiness. The two centres are the best I’ve ever seen, well at least the best out of the ones I go to pick up my family and friends kids. Thank you for all you’ve done Banksia and Gumnut."

"As a mum it is very hard when you leave your child with someone else. But for me it’s not that hard because this is an accredited centre. It’s very good especially the kind lady (Moneesha). I feel very confident, happy and have a settled heart because I know how she deals with my child and how hard she tries to make my child happy.

"Thank you, to all the staff! "

"It is long past time that we should have written to thank you for all the wonderful care and attention our daughter has received over three years at your centres.

"To have consistent childcare available that we trust and admire and can rely on has been absolutely vital for a number of really important outcomes that all end up benefiting our young friend Amarina. Here is the list.....

  1. Really brilliant interaction and learning together with children around her own age. (Amarina is so far an only child.)
  2. Attention, assistance and advice from professional child-carers who also obviously really know their stuff, love kids and know when a kid has got troubles. (Amarina's parents {us} are part-time, first-time novices, totally challenged by the whole deal.)
  3. Respite for us.....we may be too easy on her or Amarina might just be a very exuberant handful.....but either way we have found the first three years just a bit too full-on to imagine coping with for 100% of the week. (Michael's relatives are all a good deal older and mostly far away......and all of Eileen's relatives are located at least 45 minutes solid driving away.....so we just haven't had any other respite options.)
  4. Friendships......Amarina now knows what it takes to make 'em and break 'em and where the limits are. (Including her adult friends at your two centres.)
  5. Craft, culture and games discoveries that we would never have been able to think up or find for our daughter.
  6. A healthy diet and great hygiene. When we say goodbye on a Monday or Tuesday or Wednesday morning we know we are going to collect a sturdier, healthier young woman at the end of the day. She tells how yummy things were. (Now I think we are OK with hygiene and we would like to think that we go to special lengths to promote healthy eating but we probably don't go far enough.)
  7. Sensibility. Our daughter seems to us (certainly), but others too, to have a balanced, inclusive and gregarious outlook on life and meeting people. (She has spent a big number of her days since she was 6.5 months old as a client of the HCS and everyone she has met there has been very important to shaping her attitudes, her level of trust and the language she uses.)

"So thank you Holroyd Children's Service for helping us get over our child-rearing nerves and tough times as well as providing such a rich and healthy introduction to learning for our daughter.

"Here's hoping we can help you much more in the future."

~Eileen and Michael, April 2008

"The Centre helped my daughter develop her motor, coordination and cognitive skills.

"The teachers/staff are so nice, approachable and exactly know what they are doing as far as the needs of my daughter are concerned.

"I have full trust in all the staff/teachers in this centre in taking care of my daughter.

"Whenever I ask them about the activities of my daughter in the centre, they are always ready to give me feedback.

"I highly commend Eva Nikki, Monica, Blaine, Jody, Annie, Mercedes, Julie-Anne and Diane for the job well done.

"Thank you very much for everything!

"To all the ladies at Gumnut Grove,

"This is to say a BIG Thank You for all these years that you have looked after Hamish and been his mentors. It has been a long journey and he has being coming to Banksia Babes then the Big Centre for the past 2 ½ years.

"Both Royce and I have been really pleased with the level of care you have provided and all the facilities at both centres.

"It was very daunting for us all when Hamish first started day care but it didn’t take long for us to feel very confident in leaving him there and we soon completely trusted everyone there to give him the best care.

"He has been very happy coming to the centre and you all have helped him to grow and learn so much within the past few years. Thank you so much for looking after him with such care, especially during some of the difficult times during the start, and when getting him to eat salad and fruit was worse than climbing Mount Everest etc!

"A special thank you also to the teachers at the Sea Horse Room. He always talks about Jodie (he calls you his boss when we talk about anything to do with our workplaces). And Sarah- love all the Aussie songs you have taught him. And Mercedes- he always talks about how you went overseas for your holidays and visited other places. Julie Ann- he thinks you are the best cook, in the world and loves your Gingerbread cookies and corn fritters (I’ll have to get the recipe).

"You have all had such a positive influence on him and we always remember his days at Gumnut Grove very fondly. You out so much love and enthusiasm into your work.

"We wish all the staff at Banksia Babes and this centre all the very best for the future. Please continue with your excellent work and hope both centres will develop from strength to strength. We have no hesitation in recommending you to any parent, congratulations on your excellent standards and level of care for all the kids.

"Wishing you a very happy Christmas and wonderful 2009…….

With our grateful thanks and best wishes to all….. "
