Building Construction Hours

The increase in building activity in the City has heightened residents concerns over construction noise.

Holroyd Council has taken steps to minimise the impact of construction noise so that the peace and repose of residents is reasonably preserved whilst at the same time affording persons carrying out building operations sufficient operating times within which to work.

The permitted hours of construction are:

  • Monday to Friday - 7am to 6pm
  • Saturday - 8am to 4pm
  • Sundays and Public Holidays - no work

Demolition is only to be carried out on weekdays.

Residents inconvenienced by building work outside of these hours should:

  1. Outside of normal business hours, telephone Council’s paging service on 9840 9840 when the operator will take the details and contact an Ordinance Inspector who will attend the construction site.
  2. If you wish to make enquiries during normal business hours you may visit Council’s Customer Service Centre at the Council Chambers, 16 Memorial Avenue Merrylands or contact the Centre by telephone on 9840 9840.

Keeping Footpaths Clear

A construction site should not block a footpath. This may cause danger for pedestrians. Those obstructing access past a building site run the risk of being issued a Penalty Notice and may be leaving themselves open to legal action if someone was injured.

If it is necessary to block access past a building site for a short period of time a safe and secure alternative passage for pedestrians should be provided.

If you are having problems with a building site blocking a path please contact Council's Customer Service Centre on 9840 9840.
